Someone Always Ruins the Fun...

We were going to try to stay non-political today and just have a good time at the St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Unfortunately, Melina Kennedy, Democratic candidate for prosecutor, couldn’t leave politics out of what was supposed to be a good time for everyone.

The rules for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade run by the Indy Sports Foundation clearly state that this is a non-partisan parade. No candidates are allowed to distribute campaign materials or display camapign signage. The parade insists upon this to remain legally compliant with their IRS group registration.

Mrs. Kennedy must have decided she was above the rules because she not only walked in the parade, but had people walking with Melina Kennedy for Prosecutor stickers. Some might think this sounds like a small thing. But the role of Prosecutor is to prosecute those who choose not to follow the law. Does Melina Kennedy sound like the type of person that should be given that responsibility?

UPDATE: We’ve posted a few pictures that a FIN field operative was able to snap of Melina’s crew breaking the rules at the parade.

How can we expect her to enforce laws--she can't even follow the rules for a freaking parade!

I guess it pays to be a jester in the court of King Bart.
She is above the law, but can she juggle?

Just another example of a politican who thinks she's above the law. What really kills me is that she's so Blatant about it. It would be one thing if she just quietly walked but no she had to break all the rules by passing out literature.

Actually, Mr. Brizzi was doing the same thing, as did MMM last year, its an expected (albeit undesirable) practice. Perhaps FIN should focus on the rising crime under Mr. Brizzi's watch, rather than attacking a well-qualified, intelligent woman like Melina Kennedy.

Apparently Mr. Brizzi is very concerned about his opponent if his campaign is actually spending time on Mrs. Kennedy wearing a campaign sticker in a parade. I hope they do better with the real issues down the road.

I felt I should jump in and address a few things brought up on this thread over the weekend.

First, elected officials are permitted to walk in the parade. They just aren’t allowed to use any campaign tools such as official campaign literature, t-shirts, and of course, stickers.

Second, the Prosecutor can only bring charges against folks that have been caught breaking the law. He has nothing to do with rising crime rates—forward your complaints on this issue to Sheriff Frank Anderson. But I would be sure to copy Mayor Peterson on it as well since his little “consolidation” power grab gave him more control over policing activities.

Third, Mrs. Kennedy may be bright but clearly not smart enough to know rules are meant to be followed. This was a political misstep and would have been pretty easy to avoid. She didn’t think anyone would notice or say anything. She was mistaken.

Finally, we would like to be very clear that the FIN does not represent any candidate campaign. Things written on this blog are merely our opinion of the political happenings in Indianapolis and should not be wrongfully attributed to particular candidate campaigns or committees.

This is the Carl Brizzi for Prosecutor attack machine.

Politicians and parties only do this stuff when they are scared. Carl Brizzi and co. are scared.

So I herd Melina’s spin doctor on Abdul this morning. It sounds like their answer is “yeah she broke the rules but so does everybody else”. That’s exactly what I look for in someone who wants to be my Prosecutor. I mean if she takes that attitude to the Prosecutor’s Office then will anybody have to pay for their crimes?

People who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones. If you’re going to post anonymously, don’t accuse other folks of being “scared.” And for the record, the Democrat State Party has had a blog running for a while now…are they scared?

Tbe Brizzi, Biberstein attack machine strikes again.

Do you guys really think your going to get away with being this nasty?

Hey, I know what to do.

Lets get into a discussion of ethics in the prosecutor's office...

are you talking about "spewing out lies?

A campaign can not be won or lost based on who did or did not walk in a parade. Let's start talking about some real issues again.

She is just the hand pick puppet of Bart. She has no criminal experience, so she can't run on her record.

The mayor is just attempting to get his hands on the control on the Prosecutor's office. Do you think she would be independent to run the office without first getting approval from the mayor's office?

She is just a Peterson puppet

She's a Hoosier marching in a parade, wearing a sticker. An appropriately green sticker with an appropriately Irish name on it. I fail to see why this is actually a violation of the rules. Furthermore, I fail to see why her participation in an enjoyable holiday tradition is a campaign issue. The debate should be about issues, not festive stickers.
