Sheriff Finally Does Something

On WIBC today:

Marion County Sheriff's Deputies are stepping up their crime fighting efforts to deal with a big increase in robberies throughout the county. Sheriff’s Capt. Doug Scheffel says they’re shifting some resources and moving more deputies into the robbery division. He says the new robbery deputies are coming from several areas. “Officers who are currently assigned to the safe streets office… and some officers that are currently in narcotics,” he says. Scheffel says deputies have been making lots of robbery arrests this year, but it hasn’t put a dent in the problem. He says this shift will allow the department to address the problem “head on.” Last weekend, a pizza deliveryman was robbed and shot – the third robbery of a pizza delivery driver in just a few days. Deputies say they won’t tolerate this situation, and plan to make the environment uncomfortable for criminals and would-be robbers.

Hey -- this is not at all germane, but I was downtown today and noticed that the streets had new names. Perhaps most ironic is that Ohio Street (where the Marion County Prosecutor's Office is) is now Bob Kennedy Blvd.

For those that don't know, Bob Kennedy was an olympic runner and is married to Melina Kennedy, the Democratic candidate for Marion County Prosecutor.

Bet Brizzi's none to happy about having his office at 251 E Bob Kennedy Blvd.

Finally, the first chance for me to say:

"Bob, the only Kennedy that should be doing any running this fall."

If anyone has noticed the crime problem is bad all over the country. Marion County, along with many other urban areas are now challenged with finding new, effective ways of making cities safer. The only person coming up with new ideas is Brizzi, and those ideas are only being stalled by the City-County council, who is directly linked with Kennedy. (Not where she wants to be.)

Side up with Adams on an illegal park ban proposal, then have Adams and her Democratic friends stall the only real, positive idea to fix jail overcrowding.

Try an argument against keeping criminals in jail. Or, as their political tactics on a public safety issue show, try and prevent good ideas from moving forward.

Democrats in this city are all power hungry, short sided individuals who simply want the status of the position.

Was anyone else bored to tears at Kennedy speaking at the neighborhood association meeting last week???

Would someone go over the basics of terminology with regard to jails, and punishments with her.

I will give $10 dollars to Kennedy if she can tell me what the sentencing ranges are for a D felony

So the Sheriff is doing something, but it probably won't help at all. Who do you think is driving the robberies? Drug Addicts! Who supplies the drugs? Drug Dealers! So instead of trying to cut off the source, he adds more officers to investigate crimes that are horribly difficult to solve? Even worse, the Mayor is pulling cops out of the neighborhoods to ride in squad cars...Neighborhood policing has been proven effective...when the neighbors know their local officer that walks the block, they'll report suspicious behavior more often. But when they just respond to calls - they aren't doing anything proactive!
